Austin Ridge Bible Church opened its new 21,000 square foot addition as part of a new trend popular across the US, known as “Multi-Site.”
In August, the church celebrated the end of construction and the opening of its second worship center on campus. They experienced their largest attendance Sunday ever, excluding prior Easter Sundays.
In a multi-site scenario, church services are held simultaneously in two separate buildings. Each building has its own band leading live music and each building is supported by a team of staff members and volunteers. The pastor delivers his message live in one of the buildings and the other building receives a video link and projects it onto a large, center stage movie screen along with image magnification on two side screens.
“We’ve been experiencing overcrowding for years and this last year in particular, we’ve routinely had to seat people in our lobby,” said Brad Thomas, Lead Pastor. “Our original plan was to build a large facility, capable of accommodating all of our membership in one location, but found that by using technology, we could save literally millions of dollars and still offer a high quality experience. Our goal has never to been to be a large church for that is up to the Lord. Our goal is to teach the scriptures, apply them to our lives, love people well and live generously. Multi-Siting enables us to use money to serve people instead of build buildings.”
The addition of the new building basically doubles Austin Ridge’s worship and nursery capacity.
“This addition enables us to love and care for more people in two service hours than we were able to previously accomplish in three service hours,” said Teri Brown, First Impressions Director at Austin Ridge Bible Church. “Having one of our services a video sermon has been fun. Many people have commented that it looks live, and they didn’t realize it was video. We invite you to see it to believe it! Our service times are at 9 and 10:45 a.m..”
It is the intent of Austin Ridge to continue this kind of expansion, opening new sites across the city of Austin over the next several years.
The expansion is part of an already multi-purpose site located on 80 acres at the corner of Bee Cave Road and Cuernavaca. Austin Ridge offers the use of its world class Disc Golf course, mountain biking trails, scenic hiking trails, baseball field and a lakeside picnic area to the public free of charge.
