Aiming to contend for a state berth, the Lake Travis tennis team wound up with a tough draw – and a team at the top of its game – in the Region 2-5A tournament Friday.

Going up against Klein, a team that was missing key players earlier in the season but was back to health for regionals, Lake Travis couldn’t capture the momentum in a 10-5 loss.

Carli Knezevich and Remi Immler, along with Emily Cotton and Raven Hampton, won their girls doubles matches for the Lady Cavaliers, while Courtney Schulte and Immler each won their girls singles matches as well.

Tristan Wise and Nick Ruzicka won their No. 1 boys doubles match in three sets.

“It was a tough draw for us, but the kids played well,” Lake Travis tennis coach Carol Creel said. “We thought we had a real chance to challenge for the regional title, but Klein was much stronger than the last time we played them.”

Lake Travis will now look ahead to the spring season with the team format over for the fall.
