The Lake Travis girls golf team took second at the Georgetown Girls Invitational at Sun City Friday and Saturday.
The team played the Cowan Creek Golf Course on Friday and the Legacy Hills golf Course on Saturday and battled hard and made a nice improvement on Day 2.
The Lady Cavs finished second, only eight strokes behind Westlake. The Lady Cavs fired team scores of 311-304 to finish with a two-day total of 615, with Westlake finishing at 607. The team’s freshman sensation, Kristen Gillman, played in her first high school tournament and took top honors finishing at one under par for the two days, just clipping out Westlake’s Sierra Sims for medalist honors.
Gillman shot 73-70 for at two day total of 143, with Sims firing a 144. Lake Travis had two other girls finish in the top 10 – Gillman fired 78-73 151 and Courtney Ford shot 78-78 156. The other Lake Travis players and scores were Ann Parmerter 82-83 165 and Veronica McGrail 94-84 178.
The Cavaliers second team boys played in the Judson Rocket Classic played at Olympia Hills Friday and at Starcke Park in Seguin on Saturday. The Cavs dominated the tournament, leading from wire to wire, with three of the five boys finishing in the top 10. Lake Travis fired team scores of 306-298 for a two-day total of 604 to take first by some 20 strokes over second place Brandeis. Lake Travis also took the top two medalist spots, with Andrew Dehennis firing a 72-75 for a total of 147 to take first medalist and Kevin Austrian firing 75-73 for a 148 to take second medalist honors. Nick Winborn shot 77-75 152 to finish in the top 10. The other two Lake Travis players and scores were Thomas Hoch with 84-75 159 and Dillon Baxter with 82-77 159.
The Lady Cavs JV played Monday in San Marcos at Quail Creek and finished in the middle of the pack with a team score of 439. Michaela Francisco led the Cavs with a 92, followed by Marifer Tamkin with 100, Kaley Eichinger 120 and Brianna Dominguez with 127.
