The postseason push is nearing for the Lake Travis tennis team.
At the Kemah Invitational Saturday, pitted against numerous top teams in Texas from Class 5A, the girls doubles duo of Ryan Brown and Courtney Schulte showed they’ll be in contention for a second straight state title this spring. The doubles tandem won the girls championship at Kemah, topping a team from Houston Memorial 6-4, 6-3 in the finals after a win over a tandem from Boerne, 6-2, 6-3, in the semifinals.
The mixed doubles team of Nick Ruzicka and Remi Immler took third overall in their division, beating Houston Memorial’s top duo 6-3, 6-3 in the third-place match. Immler and Ruzicka lost to Casey Sutton and Nemo Neiss of Westlake 7-5, 7-5 in an extremely tight match in the semifinals. In all likelihood, those pairings could meet up again in the upcoming District 15-5A Championships April 8-9 at the University of Texas Intramural courts.
Carli Knezevich and Adam Dokos placed fifth in mixed doubles. Lake Travis plays in the Westwood Invitational today , where top teams such as Westwood, Westlake and Klein will be on hand.
In boys singles, Tristan Wise made it to the semifinals and lost in a close three-set match while Tyler Wilkie went 3-2 at the tourney.
Bailey Meyer and Raven Hampton both went 3-2 in girls singles, and the duo of BG Slay and Erik Kerrigan were 2-3.
