Rex Neal Van de Putte, 5-month-old infant grandson of State Sen. Leticia Van de Putte, passed away Tuesday morning in Lakeway.
At about 7:22 a.m. Lakeway police received a 9-1-1 call from his parents’ house on Gebron Drive where they arrived five minutes later.
Police performed CPR until EMS units arrived and began resuscitation efforts, but the infant was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police reports.
Authorities do not suspect foul play, but Lakeway police have begun an investigation based on standard department protocol.
“The Lakeway Police Department would like to extend its deepest condolences to the child’s family,” Lakeway Police Chief Todd Radford said.
The Texas House of Representatives observed a moment of silence Tuesday morning and left a rose on Sen. Van de Putte’s desk in their chambers in honor of Rex’s memory.
Sen. Van de Putte’s office released a statement asking for prayers for the family.
“The senator and her family are heartbroken at this tragic loss and have asked for your prayers for the family, especially Rex’s parents, Gregory and Samantha, and his brothers, Elliot and Asher,” the statement read. “Please lift this precious family up in your thoughts and prayers today and the coming days as they deal with this terrible loss.”
Information regarding arrangements will be shared once those decisions have been made, according to Van de Putte’s office.
